The Oro-Medonte 77’s were a junior hockey team that played out of Guthrie Ontario, from 2008-2011. The 77’s participated in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL). The GMHL is a junior league in Ontario and Alberta Canada. The league consists of 24 teams today, with eleven teams in the North Division, ten teams in the South, and four teams out west.

The 77’s played out of the Oro-Medonte Community Centre, and during their three years in the GMHL, they had a record of 47 wins, 62 loses, and 18 overtime losses. The team finished as high as 8th place, and never advanced past the quarter-finals in the playoffs. The team’s coach for those three years was Kirby Tokarski, with Jeff Stack operating as the General Manager.

Kirby Tokarski had a nice junior career. He played 20 games in the Ontario Hockey League with the Niagra Falls Thunder before playing 3 years at Ryerson University for the Rams in the Canadian Interuniversity Athletic Union, before a brief stint as a professional with the Greenville Grrrowl in the East Coast Hockey League. Today Tokarski continues to serve as a coach today with the Burlington Cougars of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL). Notable players to of played with the Cougars include Kevin Bieksa, Paul Henderson, and Pat Quinn.

Today the Oro-Medonte Community Centre is home to minor hockey in Guthrie and the surrounding Oro-Medonte area. The Minor hockey teams go under the name the “Thunder” and serve players between the ages of seven to nineteen. The organization’s vision is noted as
“Oro Minor Hockey is a minor hockey association that runs under the Ontario Minor Hockey Association.  Players from the age of 4-19 participate in the hockey programs that take place in the Township of Oro-Medonte
Oro Minor Hockey dedicates itself to the advancement of minor hockey for all individuals through progressive leadership by ensuring meaningful opportunities and enjoyable experiences in a safe sportsmanlike environment.
Oro Minor Hockey prides itself on its' community atmosphere and involvement. Players learn from coaches but equally, coaches learn from players.”
If you are interested in registering for Oro Minor Hockey their acceptance policy is noted below;
It is important to note that registrants are not registered to play Oro Minor hockey until on-line registration is completed and an e-transfer payment is made. No players will step on the ice until his/her registration fees are paid in full.
A copy of the registrant's birth certificate and a copy of a parent's driver's license MUST be sent to the registrar for all new players to Oro and those who are transferring players from another association.  No player will be rostered to a team until this information has been received.
If payment has not been received then the player is not registered and may end up being wait-listed. Once all age category spaces are filled, players who are still wait-listed, in order, will be offered the opportunity to play if space becomes available in their age category.
You will receive a receipt by email when your registration is complete (including a birth certificate and parent driver's license for new to Oro players) and payment has been received by the registrar. This is confirmation that you are registered to play in Oro Minor Hockey.
